Floating knee with ipsilateral floating hip injury equivalent variant: A Case report
نویسنده
چکیده
This report describes a rare case of concomitant ipsilateral pelvic disruption, hip dislocation, a femoral shaft fracture, supra and intercondylar fracture of the femur, and tibial shaft fracture in a young man who suffered a fall from a moving truck. The hip dislocation was reduced under general anaesthesia with a closed procedure. Both femoral shaft and distal femoral fractures were reduced and stabilised with a Judet screw-plate via a posterolateral approach to the femur. The other fractures were treated conservatively. Emphasis was placed on the complex injury around the hip. The surgical management of this constellation of injuries combining a floating knee and a variant of floating hip is discussed in the light of the current principles of management of a multiply injured patient. The authors propose the inclusion of the peculiar injury pattern occurred around the hip in the existing classification systems for floating hip.

Ipsilateral Floating Hip and Floating Knee - A Rare Entity
INTRODUCTION Ipsilateral floating hip and floating knee are very rare injuries. These injuries so uncommon that only three cases of similar kind have been reported. These injuries are due to high velocity injuries following motor vehicle accidents. Management of such complex injuries is a challenging task even in experienced hands as there are no standard treatment guidelines for such fractures...
متن کاملFloating Knee Injury Associated with Patellar Tendon Rupture: A Case Report and Review of Literature
Floating knee injuries are frequently associated with other concomitant injuries to the ipsilateral limb or other parts of body of which injury to the ipsilateral knee ligaments carries significance for various reasons. A middle-aged man sustained a floating knee injury following RTA. DCS fixation by bridge plating technique for the distal femur and lateral buttress plating by MIPO technique fo...
متن کاملRehabilitation Program in Type I Floating Knee: A Case Report
Study Design: Case report Background: Type I floating knee is characterized by fracture of the femur and tibia shafts leading to a discontinuity of the knee joint. Despite the evidence in the literature about surgical treatment for these fractures, we found a lack of findings focusing the rehabilitation process. Thus, the aim of this study was to describe a specific rehabilitation program for a...
متن کاملA Case Report of Floating Metatarsal: Concomitant Dislocation of the Tarsometatarsal and Metatarsophlangeal Joints of the Second Toe
An extremely rare case of floating second metatarsal is reported. The reported case is a young man with simultaneous dislocation of tarsometatarsal and metatarsophalangeal joints of the second metatars following a car accident. Because of patient's discontent for open surgery, blind percutaneus pinning was performed that was not completely successful and in follow up radiography, 18 months late...
متن کاملThe irreducible floating hip: a unique presentation of a rare injury
A floating hip injury occurs in the setting of poly-trauma and is a rare and difficult problem to manage. Floating hip injuries require vigilant attention not only to the osseous injuries but also the surrounding compartments and soft tissue envelope. We report the case of a 35-year-old male with a lower extremity posterior wall acetabular fracture, ipsilateral femoral shaft fracture and a post...
